Golden, School of mines, Cardboard boat race. – Sink sank sunk.

I think everyone takes a little joy in watching the best and the brightest sink in cold despair, at least no ones life is on the line yet.  … Ok that was harsh and dark, but failure is a big part of this event! In reality it’s all fun and games at the annual cardboard boat race featuring students from the Colorado School of Mines.

Creativity is part of the game too.  Everyone has different themes, costumes and design builds.  The more outrageous, the happier the crowd is. I think there is less focus on actually making it to the bottom than there is in design effort, but as long as one group makes it to the end everyone is happy.

At the end of the video there was a lot of excitement about something happening up stream, we couldn’t see it from our vantage point but found other footage on youtube. This too was a favorite with my boys. (there is an add, but this is not my content)

Here is the perspective from the participants.  This is also not my footage but it shows some more of the race.

One of the best parts about being here at this time was showing my kids the fun of higher education.  I realize it’s not a top reason for higher ed, but it shows how you can take some engineering skills, creativity, and make them fun.  I also want to expose them to some top schools as we travel, this was a good start.
